eco-fashion CONTROL UNION - ORGANIC COTTON

Organic cotton is grown without chemicals or the use of genetically modified seeds - in other words it's guaranteed 100% natural. Certified organic cotton also bans the addition of chemicals as the fibre is turned into clothes. It must be understood that human health needs to be considered at all stages of textile production from worker to wearer - pesticides, chemical dyes and formaldehyde to name a few have serious impacts on human health.

For a more comprehensive understanding please refer to the GOTS - Global Organic Textile Standard document, link below. In order to be certified organic our clothing companies must adhere to this standard, which as you will read involves more than organic cotton, but in fact requires adherence to safe practice throughout the manufacturing process.

Ecoworldfashion.com recommend control union (GOTS) certified organic clothing for all children, chemically sensitive or allergic individuals and those with health concerns.

EcoWorldFashion.com brands who use organic cotton are certified with the European Control Union (formerly SKAL). Click here for more information on Control Union.

Please take the time to read the certifying criteria, a full appreciation of textile processing will enable an understanding of how important it is for the health of everyone to buy certified organic clothing.

eco-fashion FAIR TRADE

"Fair Trade is a trading partnership based on dialogue, transparency and respect that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalised producers and workers.”

EcoWorldFashion.com use a fair-trade symbol when the clothing company ensures social accountability in accordance with the definition given above.

Serendipity our children’s label have acquired certification SA8000, for a more comprehensive understanding of what that means, please visit this site.

ETHICAL FASHION

Cotton accounts for just 3% of the world's agriculture, yet uses 25% of all insecticides and 10% of all pesticides. The workers, all 40 million employed in the global textile trade pay the price for cheap clothing: long hours, poor wages, unsafe working conditions (dangerous chemical use), abuse and discrimination.

The end user of conventionally made clothes pays a health price -  through multiple dangerous chemical absorptions via skin contact, or off-gassing of those chemicals. Our environment is severely negatively impacted with the use of chemicals that foul our soil and impact our air quality.

EcoWorldFashion.com pledge to support companies that are Ethical in their dealings with people and the environment, some of our brands ensure this ethical position from seed to sales with certification, others are truly committed to tackling either the environmental or social issues brought about by the manufacture of their fashion clothing.

Everything we stock at Ecoworldfashion.com tackles at least one of the environmental and social issues involved in making, transporting and selling clothes. EcoWorldFashion.com assess the brand and their products against a set of Ethical criteria which covers environmental impact, working conditions, fair trade considerations and human health.

eco-fashion TRADITIONAL SKILLS

Ecoworldfashion.com support those companies who utilize talented artisans from around the world who have traditional skills.

Ecoworldfashion.com endeavour to support companies who utilize artisans in the production of their fashion or the artisans themselves. In some instances, generations of families have been and are highly skilled embroiders, handweavers, natural plant hand dyers, wild silk weavers and knitters to name a few.

In a world where mechanization is dominating - sometimes centuries old - skills, we feel it is important to protect the beautiful work produced by those with traditional skill.

Ethical fashion looks to work with artisans by using traditional skills to give designs a uniqueness that will sell in the marketplace. This helps to ensure their skills are kept alive to pass down to the generations and offers security for their livelihood.
